Feral Cat Problem in Carteret

Feral Cats in CarteretRecently, it has come to our attention that residents in Carteret, have not only been irresponsibly trapping cats with no regard for their well being, but also possibly using poison as a method to control the over population. Regardless of the fact of an over population, the methods used to control the issue must be humane and within the law. It is very disturbing to hear of such acts and one can only hope that the authorities will intervene and help alleviate the situation and also hold those accountable for any illegal actions taken.

The blind and senseless use of poisons to control an animal population are immoral and illegal to say very the least. Not to mention the fact that other animal populations could possibly be adversely affected.

The only way to control this problem is simple, TNR ( Trap, Neuter, Release). It is humane and does provide a future solution. However, residents that feed these stray cats must also bare a portion of the burden. To do so, only supports the current population and naturally encourages the growth of such a problem. If the cats that are being fed were neutered, then we would not be having this discussion.

Animal lover or not, humane treatment of all living things is a reflection on our society and is the only option. We have all been taught by our forefathers to defend those that cannot defend themselves.

If you or someone you know are having an issue with a cat population around their home or business, or have no issue, but recognize there is a problem, do the right thing and involve those that have dedicated their time and resources to that cause.

Below you’ll find a local resource that we’ve come across that is actively assisting Carteret Residents control the current feral cat population. Whether you want to assist or just be relieved of the current situation, we recommend you speak with them first.
